The Promotion of Carelessness thru Social Networking Sites

Pres.Noynoy Aquino acknowledges the value of social networking sites in promoting a wide scope of interaction between the government and its constituents. The government could easily post recent projects or important undertakings on such sites and all at once, the people can post and tweet their responses, whether they're in favor, totally against, or wanting for amends.

But just recently, the ever-controversial issue portraying the ill effect of  government officials participating in social networking had come to view. Carmen "Mai" Mislang, one of Pnoy's staff on the Philippine delegation headed to Vietnam for an ASEAN Summit reportedly post snide remarks on her Twitter account like how the "wine sucks" in an official function; "no handsome men to be seen anywhere"; and "crossing the speedy motorcycle-laden streets of Hanoi (Vietnam) is one of the easiest way to die."

urban congestion in Vietnam
How gross! An educated person (which is of course she belongs in after all, she's an assistant sec. of the President) should never post comments like that.Just taking into consideration that she's a part of the Philippine delegation would give her the very cue that she carries with her the very image of our country. At the end of it all, what she acted and said would embody our country as a whole.

We humans are given the power of sensibility to weigh things right. Mislang had apologized for her actions and stressed out that there was "no offense meant".Obviously what she said was a toyal camouflage of her carelessness. Consider this: If we Filipinos are given such disrectful remarks, what are we most likely to feel?Well, I can't really tell the extent of our condemnation.
Participating on such sites just harm the image of our country. We are suppose to promote unity and camaraderie with Vietnem, not hatred (again!).

The semi-personal nature of social networking makes it hard for the government to manage, or at least regulate it.On the case of Mislang, she tweets her personal observations only that she'd been careless.Well yeah, it was just an opinion but government officials have the most sensitive case of responsibility to double check the contents of their posts.
Also, letting the government officials participate in social networking affects the personal aspects of their lives.Because of its semi-personal nature, people interfere with the official's personal info and whereabouts.Irrelative comments and inquires pile up because of its wide-scope nature.
Critically and practically speaking, unabated and unregulated use of social sites adversely affects the government official's efficiency and quality of service they provide. Instead of focusing more on their areas of specialization, they habitually tune in to these sites even with unimportant topics just to heighten their department's electricity bill.

Government official's carelessness in posting rude comments reflects the inability of those in charge to properly orient their subordinates. Also Mislang's being still in the position added up to our very conclusion that there had been an inability to distinguish responsible ones from those arrogant, careless ones.

Social sites have proven to be the best place to recruit employees but the very controversial Mislang has proven us that this can also serve the very opposite - can also be the best place to lose your job - along with just a pinch of your carelessness.

Social networking participated by government officials takes on a double-sensitivity nature. You are part of the embodiment of our country's facade.Your posts will reflect the group you are belonging in. If you have nothing good to say better keep your fingers static before the PC keyboard.

  1. Social Networking sites is free for everyone so its doesn't mean that your a government official your not allowed to be a part of it.

The case of "Mislang" is just a case to case basis. Just so happened shes that critic and careless in stating something. Maybe its a lesson for those social networking sites user to be careful on those things they're going to post especially if it is damaging to others. SOCIAL RESPONSIBILTY is still needed. It doesn't mean that its for me we have the freedom to post malicious or detrimental words to others. Freedom is doing thing we want as long as were not Hurting or Damaging the life of others and if we go beyond that then its not freedom anymore.

  2. The liberty to post commentary to any networking sites has a big responsibility to hold. Your written post reflects your personality. We should be very careful and responsible in posting something, not to hurt feelings of others.

  3. Networking sites are good because its a medium in which a person can express whats inside him or her even if its hurts. We cant always expect a good comment from other people. Its our interpretations that matters if we react for the better or for worst.

  4. networking site is one way of expressing what we feel, but there is a limitaion. we could write anything but not those offending ones that could create a bad image to a certain position.

in the case of "Mislang" what she had wrote was not good really, since she was a deligate of our country to vietnam, she was bringing our country's name. so she should have commented on the good ones and if she doesn't like something in vietnam she could have kept it in herself alone.

we have to be responsible of the things we write on our sites because a single thought of what we feel about something could be offending. we have to be careful of what we are saying.

  5. Social networking is one way of expressing what's inside you. It enables people to know how your mind works.Anyone can write what they wanted to write because nobody cares. It's your money and effort. But being a member of Philippine delegation is something different. You bring the name of our country and our dignity is in your hand. It doesn't only involve you and the person you criticized with. It involves the Filipinos in general. What it affects you will affect the entire nation. So watch every single word you wrote.

  6. The social networking is very important we can say that people are good when it comes in social networking but of course their is a limit, because if your hurting somebody many people will judge your attitude, and maybe they will not respect you because of your behavior, and if you let that attitude in social networking maybe you have many enemy not a friend anymore.! So take care of our fingers and mind. just think 10x before you start typing...

  7. In recent years the best place and means where you can able to connect widely with someone or something is in social networking.
It is said that social networking is an online service..platform somehow..or a site\area on building and reflecting of social relation among people or else a place where a person can share, impart and express the things that he\she wanna say..say's base on what is on his\her perception or any interests and activities he wants to link with other.
But even though we have power, knowledge and skills to connect people using this social networking service its not a guarantee that we just post the things we want to..because there are instances that the interpretation on your posted article..is maybe different from what you really wanna say..
One differs from other .. so be guided and create awareness.

  8. social networks are created to link-in with your so-far-away:') and so-distant and long-lost friends and relatives and even meeting people inside the cyber world. moreover, this network provides different links for the people to express/shout whatever thoughts they have in mind.

therefore, every individual are responsible for whatever written article they've wrote on their twitter/fb profiles since this network are open publicly and everybody can access to this.

to Mislang, as mentioned above, i think she's only up for publicity that's why she twit those comments regarding to her experience in Vietnam. and now she succeeded to her intentions, she's now responsible to what she said. unfortunately, the public mistook it and she disgustedly created total damage in Pnoy's administration.

  9. We cannot deny the fact that social networking is one of our means of letting the whole world know what we truly feel about what we saw, heard, and what we have observed about a certain thing, event or incident. But we must also take considerations with our every move, yes we are entitled to our very own rights, but we must not forget that we are also responsible for everything that we do, we have to think of the consequences it will lead us. Mislang's twit was obviously an irresponsible action, especially as being part of the President's delegation. We Filipinos are often judged for the actions of our fellow Filipinos here in our beloved land, and overseas, so we must be extra careful with everything that we do. We are all bringing our country's name, not just Mislang. So this incident should be a lesson to be learned not just by the Aquino's administration members, but also to the people around the globe who often use social networking as their means of expressing their ideas. Instead of doing things that would only bring shame to our country, why not use our time online responsibly?, and be one of those people who brings fame to our country's name.

  10. Everything has limitation and so social networking is part of it. You may post anything you want to post but you must as well consider the responsibilities you hold in your hand. For instance, what Mislang had post in her account. It is like a paper that you when you put dot in the middle of it, no matter how you try to erase the dot the remains would still be visible. What I mean is that no matter how sorry Mislang is, what she did and its effect would remain in how other countries would look at us. I mean in some way it would be a base to anyone, what do Filipinos are like.

  11. Social networking and online interaction is just one way of having a interpersonal and even group discussion on a certain matters.

In the case of "MIslang" she had just misused the social networking in expressing her though. Why? first because she is an official that should be a model and an icon, so she must be careful of what she will be posting to her accounts..she should bear in mind that as a staff of our president she must be aware that whatever bad comments she post will reflects the country and even the presidents performance.

Anyways, talking about promoting social networking for the public officials i guess this it is one way for us the people and the state o give comments, suggestions, and even recommendation to the government on certain projects they will be imposing, and also for us people to be aware of the programs that will help us in any ways.....

  12. their is nothing wrong with expressing one's opinion.we are in a democratic country and it's our right to give our sentiments, opinions towards our government.i personally believe that we need social networking for our public officials like what the president did. the very reason is because we the concerned citizens are given freedom to state and discuss different issues and some mismanagement of our government and more importantly to have transparency on the governance.it doesn't mean that because it's free, its for all,we can do and say what we want against the government or someone who is in authority.we should always remember that whatever we say reflects the kind of person we are.so be careful, just an advice.
